THE HISTORY OF CHEAT CODES IN GTA
Since the first Grand Theft Auto in 1997, cheat codes have been a pillar of the series. Simple button combinations that transform the gameplay experience — every installment has brought its own iconic collection of codes. Here's the evolution of cheats through the ages of GTA.
GTA — The Origins
The first GTA introduced cheat codes via special player names (GIVECASHY, BIGHEAD, etc.). Even then, codes offered health, weapons and vehicles — a tradition that would endure.
GTA III, Vice City & San Andreas
The classic era. GTA III popularized controller button combos. Vice City added weather codes and skins. San Andreas exploded with over 70 codes: jetpack, flying cars, super jump — the most iconic in the series.
GTA IV & GTA V
GTA IV simplified codes via the in-game phone. GTA V returned to controller combos on console and keywords on PC, with classic categories: health, weapons, vehicles, world. Codes disable achievements during the session.
GTA VI — The Next Generation
GTA 6 is expected to continue this tradition. Based on confirmed mechanics (Leonida's open world, two protagonists, dynamic weather systems), codes will very likely cover health, weapons, vehicles, police and weather.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN GTA 6
Based on the series' evolution and mechanics confirmed through trailers, here are the most likely cheat code categories in GTA 6.
Health & Armor
Max health, full armor and invincibility — classics present since the first GTA, virtually guaranteed in GTA 6.
Weapons & Ammo
All weapons unlocked, infinite ammo and explosives — a series staple that should return alongside the 18+ confirmed weapons.
Vehicles & Movement
Vehicle spawns, super jump, moon gravity — vehicle cheats have always been the most popular and fun.
Police & World
Wanted level management and weather control — essential in GTA's open worlds, especially with Leonida's dynamic weather system.

PS5 (DualSense)
